Developer Diary: 2021 week 1

08/01/2021 developerDiary

Happy New Year! What a year 2020 was, eh? I found weeks would pass and it was hard to differentiate one from the next. So for 2020, I have decided to keep a diary, to keep track of things I have done and learned week to week. I find it easy, particularly in these "stay at home" times, to feel like I am not achieving much but I thought I'd write down and share what a week as a developer is like, for me at least 😊

What's been happening?

It's been a pretty chilled out start to the year for me, having spent most of the break in a massive hoodie, crocheting, sleeping and recovering from 2020. This was my biggest tech break in a very long time, I didn't open my laptop for 10 days over Christmas and New year! Then we hade the Scottish bank holiday meant a nice long break not returning to work til Tuesday 5th, which was lovely.

I have been taking part in Yoga with Adriene's 30 yoga journey. I have made it 7 days in a row now, which I am super happy with. It's been a nice addition to my days to take some time to relax and exercise. I am trying different times of day to see what suits me best, we'll see how it goes!

Listening 🎧

Alot of podcasts for me as usual! Less tech content than usual over the holidays, a mix of crime, TV, politics and just funny chats.

I have also been loving this playlist of music from TV show Scandal since I have been binge watching over the holidays.

Learning 👩‍💻

I plan on documenting on the tech or career learnings week by week. This week I was mostly just trying to get into a routine. Let's start next week.

Watching 📺

Over the festive break I have watched alot of football and TV!

I really enjoyed 'Little Fires Everywhere' on Prime video, a mini series based on the book with Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon.

Murder on Middle Beach- a 4 part true crime show trying to solve a crime from 2010.

The Mandalorian- We finally finished season 2!

... And like most people watching alot of news as current events have been more dramatic than Film or TV

Goals for next week:

  • Keep doing daily yoga
  • Daily skin care routine
  • Catch up on meetup organiser admin for Q1
